ETALA Annual Personal Responsibility Essay Contest
East Texans Against Lawsuit Abuse (ETALA) today announced its sponsorship of their annual essay contest for area sixth and seventh graders. The authors of the top two essays in each grade will receive $500 and $100 savings bonds.
“Our essay contest encourages students to think about the importance of personal responsibility and resists our society’s tendency to point fingers whenever anything goes wrong,” said ETALA director Diane Davis. “It’s never too early to encourage children to be independent, responsible thinkers. We’re hopeful they’ll grow into adults who embrace personal responsibility,” she said.
Each essay must answer one or all three of the following questions:
- “What happens when we do not take personal responsibility?”
- “Why do we need personal responsibility?”
- “How do you take personal responsibility in your own life?”
ETALA’s essay contest is part of an on-going public awareness effort on the cost and consequences of lawsuit abuse. The group encourages people to know their rights and resist the urge to play the blame game when something goes wrong in their lives.
Area sixth and seventh graders are allowed to have one entry per student and entries should be between 400-500 words. Each entry must be accompanied by an entry form that includes the student’s name, address, phone number, word count of essay, age, grade, school and the name of his or her teacher. All entries submitted must be written in English.
